Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated (NKII)
Ngati Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated (NKII) was established in the late 1980s as a result of discussions amongst local kaumātua. Ngāti Kahungunu determined the need for an iwi body to help enhance the mana and well being of the rohe, which stretches from Wharerata in the North to Cape Paliser in the South. NKII, with the mandate to represent the people of Ngāti Kahungunu, is the Governing body for all aspects of Iwi development. Key initiatives include the Matauranga Strategy, the Kahungunu Violence Free Iwi Strategy, and the Revitalisation of Te Reo Strategy.
